DZA live - hi from Gronningen
electronic wanderings of this year’s Supershark and Zookeeper EP.
What has stayed constant throughout is the playful curiosity that throws dusty film soundtracks and old video
arcade samples up against clattering, shaky drums; you’d swear there’s something amiss in many of the beats, but a careful count reveals that yes, there actually is a
downbeat that repeats at a regular interval. It’s tricky music, a breed that challenges a listener as much as it seeks to entertain.

Recorded between 2007 and 2011, some of DZA DOG has existed on DZA’s frequently updated Soundcloud page; other tracks are rough, unfinished sketches, a surprisingly intimate look at what happens when an artist coughs something out in a flurry of activity but maybe never gets around to finishing it — or just likes the way it sounds as is.
A close listen will also reveal DZA’s progression as a
producer, expanding his bag of sonic tricks in search of new ways to make heads nod. Surprises come in many forms here, and many tracks invite repeated listens to
unearth their little treasures. The release comes as a solo download, but listeners will have the options of purchasing a few “DZA DOG” toys that have been specially made for the project.
And this project marks the return of DZA’s famous how2make label, on which he released music for several years under different monikers and with other friends from Moscow. More information at the label’s new online home: how2make.ru
